Swimming Opportunities
Stroke Clinic:
Corky Semler will be hosting a Competitive Swim Clinic at McCandless Swim Club from July 27th until August 2nd. The clinic will cost $50 and is open to McCandless members, as well as non-members; it is designed for competitive athletes who have mastered the four basic strokes.
Click here to find out more information about the clinic on the registration page: 2021 MSC Competitive Swim Clinic. Please direct any additional questions to [email protected].
Winter Swim Programs:
There are several year-round programs in the area. Winter swimming is typically from September – March. Newer swimmers typically practice 2-3x a week for an hour. As swimmers get stronger, the practices increase to 5x a week and for 1-2 hours.
ANSC: Allegheny North Swim Club is a developmental swim club affiliated with USA Swimming. Our mission is to help children and young adults (ages 6 to 18) develop good swimming technique and learn to swim competitively. This team specifically has tryouts coming up in August. Please see the website for more details. www.Anscswim.org
Baierl YMCA, PRA (Pine Richland Aquatics), North Hills Aquatics, Shaler also offer programs that are similar to ANSC.
Several families in the BP community are involved or have used these programs over the years. If you have questions, we can try to answer them or direct you to a family that has participated in these programs.
Water Polo:
Another option is water polo for those swimmers who love ball sports and swimming! The Tiger Water Polo Club is a year-round, non-profit, youth development program dedicated to the sport of water polo. We practice at the North Allegheny High School pool in Wexford, PA (and at Brook Park). We focus on fun, personal development, and athlete development for boys and girls of most ages.
